The modification of polymer surfaces using fluorine gas mixtures is undertaken by Fluoro Pack (Pty) Ltd. This technology, which improves the permeation characteristics of polymers, was applied for the first time in South Africa in 1992. It has since become widely accepted for the packaging of solvent-based agro-chemicals, chemicals and fuel.
